AZ-204 to AI-200: the Azure developer exam is now an AI exam
AZ-204 retired on 31 July 2026. Its successor, AI-200, leads to Azure AI Cloud Developer Associate — but most of the blueprint is still back-end development.

What actually changed
- Despite the AI label, the objectives are dominated by containers, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Service Bus, Event Grid, Functions, Key Vault and OpenTelemetry.
- The AI element is that those data services are exercised for embeddings and retrieval rather than ordinary CRUD.
- Roughly a quarter of the exam is containerised delivery — Container Registry, App Service containers, Container Apps with KEDA scaling, and AKS manifests.
- A full quarter covers securing, monitoring and troubleshooting, which rewards being able to diagnose a failure rather than recall a service name.
